J&K: Terrorists kill Amarnath Yatra security personnel in Anantnag attack
Suspected terrorists target police party in Anantnag, policeman injured

NEW DELHI: A police personnel was killed after terrorists attacked a police party in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Anantnag town on Wednesday, officials told news agency PTI.The attack took place around 12.30 pm near Lal Chowk in Anantnag town, when the assailants fired at the police team, officials said.Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty, sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag, officials said.Doctors declared him dead on arrival, they added.Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants.Meanwhile, The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack through a post on social media, according to officials.Further details are awaited.In a separate incident, an Army personnel died after accidentally falling from a height near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday, officials said.The deceased, identified as Rifleman Sukhpreet Singh (27), was on operational duty at the forward Mahadev post in the Sunderbani sector when he reportedly lost his balance and fell from a height, resulting in fatal injuries, officials said.His body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated inquest proceedings, officials added.Following the completion of legal formalities, the soldier’s mortal remains will be taken to his native place in Punjab, where he will be accorded the last rites.
