The trailer for ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ finally dropped online and it has given fans plenty to talk about. The film that will conclude this chapter of the Godzilla saga, will reportedly end with a bang, as the footage appears to tease the return of King Ghidorah. Not just that, the trailer confirmed that the Japanese monster franchise is on course for a major theatrical showdown with India’s ‘Ramayana: Part 1′, with both films premiering on November 6.
‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ trailer releases online
The English-subtitled trailer opens ominously with the line, “We didn’t finish the job like we thought,” setting the tone for Takashi Yamazaki’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning 2023 blockbuster ‘Godzilla Minus One’. The sequel is set in 1949, two years after the events of the previous film, as Japan attempts to recover from the devastation of war and Godzilla’s attack.

Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Kōichi Shikishima, the former kamikaze pilot who appeared to defeat Godzilla in ‘Minus One’. However, the new film makes it clear that the monster’s story was far from over and teased a greater threat with King Ghidorah entering the fray. Although the makers have kept the three-headed monster’s look under wraps, he seems to overpower Godzilla and even knocks the King of the Monsters off his feet in an epic action scene.

The monster film is being set up for an IMAX release as it is also the first Japanese production to be filmed for IMAX. The sequel will premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 26 before opening in Japan on November 3. It is scheduled to arrive in North American cinemas on November 6.

The trailer’s arrival has also intensified online buzz in India because ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ and Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ are both scheduled for November 6, setting up a clash of epic proportions.‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, is set for a worldwide release on November 6. The film is being positioned as a global-scale Indian epic, and is also eyeing an IMAX release.
Fans react to ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ vs ‘Ramayana’ clash
The clash between gods and monsters has prompted Indian fans on social media to compare the two films’ scale, visual effects and mythological imagery. The two productions, however, are operating on dramatically different reported budgets. ‘Ramayana’ has been widely reported as a massive Rs 4,000-crore two-part production. By comparison, ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ has a relatively lower budget, estimated to be around USD 30 million- USD 50 million.‘Godzilla Minus One’, the predecessor to ‘Minus Zero’, was famously made for a reported budget of around USD 15 million and went on to earn more than USD 116 million worldwide, while also winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
