Actor and CM Vijay’s Jason Sanjay is stepping into the spotlight with ‘Sigma,’ his first feature film as a director. The upcoming action-adventure heist film stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles, with Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, and Yog Japee in key parts. With music composed by Thaman, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2, 2026. At the pre-release event, Jason Sanjay spoke about his experience of completing the project and the emotions that came with wrapping up his first film.
Jason Sanjay says patience is key to becoming a filmmaker
Jason Sanjay had a clear message for youngsters who dream of becoming directors. “Everyone has a dream of becoming a director. I am not saying this as advice or a tip. I am saying this from my experience. Do a lot of short films. Don’t just think about the story running in your head. Start writing and practice a lot,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of patience when making a film. “When you get a chance to make a film, you need a lot of patience. We go with a scene paper in the morning. We go prepared. We go with what we have in mind. But if we go beyond our control, there will be a lot of obstacles that we can’t avoid. Despite all that, we have to see how we can get what we want,” Jason Sanjay added.
‘Sigma’ director Jason Sanjay reveals his filmmaking inspiration
Jason also looked back at the moments that influenced his decision to enter filmmaking. He revealed that the Brazilian crime drama ‘City of God’ played an important role in shaping his interest in direction. He also recalled making his first short film, ‘Pull The Trigger,’ in 2022. Talking about ‘Sigma,’ Jason Sanjay revealed that producer Tamil Kumaran was the first person to watch the final edit. “He was asking me to show him the film after the final edit. It’s a blessing to have such an involved producer,” he said. Jason Sanjay also revealed that his mother was the first person to tell him that he had become a director. He further described himself as someone who remains calm even during stressful moments on set.

The debutant director admitted that completing ‘Sigma’ brought mixed emotions. “I felt a great satisfaction. At the same time, I was a little sad. Because after the Sigma shoot, I only saw my direction team in the office. I haven’t been able to see the artists and technicians in the movie recently. So, I was a little sad,” Jason said. He also spoke warmly about the college students and the team he worked with during the shoot. When asked how he would react if his friends watched the film and roasted him, Jason Sanjay said, “Only my friends talk to me honestly. Even if they want to roast me, I will listen to them. If I can give a counter, I will give it. If not, I will keep quiet.”Although Jason Sanjay did not mention his father Vijay by name during the event, his answer about the first film he watched in a theatre drew a massive response from the audience. Jason Sanjay revealed that Vijay’s ‘Thirumala’ was the first film he watched on the big screen, adding that he was only three years old at the time.
