'Dharman’ release: Rajinikanth’s film likely to be pushed ahead to avoid clash with Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 3’: Report

Superstar Rajinikanth is currently shooting his upcoming action entertainer ‘Dharman’ directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and co-produced by Kamal Haasan under his banner. The film was initially expected to hit the big screens during Pongal 2027. However, reports suggest that the makers may push its release to avoid a clash with Kamal Haasan led ‘Indian 3’.

‘Dharman’ may be postponed from Pongal 2027

As per reports by Valai Pechu and Movies Singapore, ‘Indian 3’ is being planned for a theatrical release during the Pongal festive season. If that happens, ‘Dharman’ could move out of the January release window and arrive in theatres on April 30, 2027.However, neither of the release dates have been confirmed officially.

‘Indian 3’ reportedly targets festive release

It is suggested that the team behind ‘Indian 3’ is planning to complete the remaining work and release the film during Pongal 2027. Post-production is reportedly complete for portions shot alongside ‘Indian 2’, while around 15 days of shooting remain for new visuals.The team is said to be working towards completing the remaining schedule in time for the festive release, discussing it with Kamal HaasanThe sequel was planned as a direct continuation of ‘Indian 2’, with portions of both films shot simultaneously. The second instalment ended with a teaser hinting that Senapathy’s story would continue in the third film.

‘Indian 3’ expected to explore Senapathy’s past

Speaking of ‘Indian 3’, it is expected to explore the backstory of Senapathy, played by Kamal Haasan. The film is also reportedly set to introduce his father, Veerasekaran Balram, with Kamal Haasan playing the character as part of a period drama.However, it is imperative to mention that the disappointing critical and commercial response to ‘Indian 2’ made an uncertainty around the future of its sequel.

Meanwhile, in ‘Dharman’, Rajinikanth will be seen playing a doctor who takes on criminals. The makers had earlier released a title poster showing the Superstar inside an operation theatre, holding a scalpel and standing over what appeared to be a slain rowdy sheeter.It is speculated that Ram Pothineni may play the main antagonist, while Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu and Raashii Khanna are also expected to appear in important roles.
